During the month of May, those of the Catholic faith honor the Virgin Mary. Monsignor Kenneth Miller presided at May crowning, a special prayer service for Mary, at St. Joseph Immaculate Heart of Mary School on May 10. All students, staff and parishioners were invited to celebrate.

Eighth-grade students at SJIHM look forward to May crowning, as it is their privilege to lead the service in prayer. They write an essay about why they want the honor and what qualities qualify them to be the Crown Bearer or May Queen.

This year, Patrick Thomas was given the honor of being the crown bearer and Brianna Bowell was the May queen.

Eighth-graders also participate by being readers, candle bearers and May crowning court. Second-graders, dressed in their First Communion outfits, joined the court as they watched Mary being crowned with fresh flowers.
