The Poland Boy Scout Troop Pack 44 participated in Snooze at the Zoo at the Akron Zoo May 10-11. The program began at 7 p.m. on Friday and ended at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The pack participated in an animal program, a night hike, late night snack, crafts, activities, a light breakfast, a behind-the-scenes tour, animal feeding and zoo admission for Saturday.
The boys made crafts for the animals, such as painting boxes which the zoo keepers then sprayed with scents that attracts the animals.
The animals play with these boxes as if it were a toy. The scouts saw their boxes in the several of the animals’ cages on Saturday.
The scouts also dissected fumigated owl pellets made of bone, teeth, hair, feathers and exoskeletons of various animals, usually mice, preyed upon by owls.
The behind-the-scenes tour showed the troop snow leopards and cheetahs and allowed them to feed the penguins fish.
