Coroner confirms former deputy has died

YOUNGSTOWN

A spokeswoman for the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that former Mahoning County Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Lupo has died.

Lupo, who was shot in the head inside his Mahoning Township, Pa., home Sunday evening, died sometime overnight at St. Elizabeth Health Center, the spokeswoman said.

His wife, Caroline, who was wounded in the leg and stomach during the same shooting, is also being treated at St. Elizabeth.

Pennsylvania State Police at New Castle are investigating.
