Ohio girl burned after falling into trash can

Published: Thu, May 16, 2013 @ 9:24 a.m.

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) — Police say a 2-year-old girl in southwest Ohio has severe burns on both arms after falling into a trash can full of scalding water.

Middletown police say they are still investigating. The Middletown Journal reports that a police spokesman says it appears to have been a “tragic accident.”

Police say the girl was apparently trying to reach a pencil when she fell into the 13-gallon trash can in the kitchen. It had been filled with the very hot water to clean it.

The girl was flown Tuesday night to Children’s Medical Center in Dayton. The newspaper said no information was available on her condition.

A 13g trash can is about 2' high. How tall is this 2 year old to 'fall in'? Who fills a trash can with boiling water to clean it?
I will be surprised if this story holds up.
