School sets friendship bracelet record

SWEET VALLEY, Pa. (AP) — Students and staff at a northeastern Pennsylvania elementary school are heading into the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest chain of friendship bracelets.

Ross Elementary School Principal Donald James tells the Citizens’ Voice the school was notified Tuesday that the record was official. The chain was counted and measured May 1 and then photographs were sent to Guinness for official certification.

The group established a chain of 7,507 bracelets measuring more than a half mile as part of an anti-bullying campaign. The record involved students in K-6, as well as school staff and was part of a massive project between October and April 30.

James says the school’s official Guinness certificate is in the mail and should be received next week.
