YOUNGSTOWN

An investigator for the Mahoning County Coroner’s office said they have yet to receive the body of a former deputy sheriff who Pennsylvania State Police say was killed by a gunshot wound to the head Sunday evening at his home in Mahoning Township, Pa.

Courtney Bouchie, the investigator, said her office had not received the body of 50-year-old Joseph Lupo, who state police originally said died of a gunshot wound after a shooting at his home about 11:20 p.m. Sunday that also wounded his wife, Caroline.

There were media reports Tuesday that Lupo was still alive, but police had not issued a correction to Monday’s news release that stated he had died.

Both Lupos were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Repeated messages to investigators at the state police barracks in New Castle were not returned Tuesday.
