Mahoning deputy on leave after OVI arrest

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene has placed Deputy Kenneth J. O’Rourke, 52, of Canfield, on paid administrative leave after deputies arrested O’Rourke Sunday evening at Raccoon and Mellinger roads in Canfield. He is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failure to control a vehicle.

O’Rourke, a deputy for six years, who was most recently assigned to work in the county jail, entered an innocent plea Tuesday in Canfield Court. Greene said O’Rourke’s blood alcohol level was .242, more than three times the legal limit of .08. It was O’Rourke’s first drunk driving charge, according to court records.

O’Rourke was off duty and in his own vehicle when the car he was driving hit one unoccupied vehicle and caused it to strike another unoccupied vehicle in the 9:55 p.m. crash, the sheriff said. There were no injuries.
