Goodness Grows, Lake-to-River Food Cooperative, 30 Mile Meal and The Sprouted Table hosted a chef tour to regional farms that offer produce, dairy products, pasture-raised beef, lamb, pork, poultry and eggs.
Participating restaurants: Culinary Arts Center and Springfield Grille, both in Boardman, and The Lake Club in Poland.
Participating farms: Haus Orchards and Cider Mill, Angiuli’s Farm Market, Quiroz Farms and Huffman Fruit Farm, all Mahoning County; Field Fresh Farm in Ashtabula County; Dandelion Lane Farm in Columbiana County; Middlefield Original Cheese Cooperative in Geauga County and Pasture Perfect Beef in Butler County, Pa.
Goodness Grows: The faith-based organization provides training for individuals, businesses and organizations working through community gardening, agricultural projects and local food distribution to restore the vitality of local communities.
Lake-to-River Food Cooperative: The co-op, launched in 2011 by Common Wealth Inc., connects local growers and value-added producers with local customers. The co-op enables growers to meet the demand of schools, hospitals, food service companies, local restaurants and stores.
30 Mile Meal: This local food branding and promotional campaign project was adopted from Athens, Ohio, to create a network between local growers and buyers. The project centers around Youngstown to cover northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
The Sprouted Table: A farm-to-table event and catering business. Adam Lee of The Sprouted Table and Rus Welch, the Ronin Chef, host public “Pop Up Dinners.”
