Farrell man faces federal drug charges

PITTSBURGH

A federal grand jury has indicted a Farrell, Pa., resident on narcotics charges. The four-count indictment, returned Tuesday, alleges Travis W. Black, 27, conspired with others between August 2010 and November 2012 to distribute cocaine and distributed cocaine on Sept. 1 and Oct. 29 and 31, 2010. The maximum sentence Black could receive is 30 years in prison and a $2 million fine, the U.S. attorney said. The case was investigated by the Mercer County Drug Task Force and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

Boil advisory lifted

Hubbard

The boil advisory issued Wednesday for White Oak Drive in Hubbard Township has been lifted. Two tests were conducted and the water has met all EPA standards, and therefore declared safe for consumption, according to the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s office. Methodists plan recognition banquet

United Methodist Community Center, 139 E. Boardman St., Youngstown, and 760 Main Ave. SW, Warrren, will sponsor a recognition banquet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 23 at The Georgetown Banquet Center in Boardman.

The event will honor participants in G.A.I.L. (Getting Ahead in Life) and B.I.L.L. (Building Individual Life Lessons) who are in third- through 12th grades in Youngstown and Warren schools. Also to be recognized will be karate program participants at the two locations.

Pedestrian dies

PULASKI, PA.

A pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by the front bumper of an eastbound truck on Pa. Route 376, about a half-mile east of Pa. Route 208, at 5:30 a.m. Friday, State Police in New Castle said. David William Nye, 46, of Route 68, New Brighton, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga. Route 376 eastbound was closed for several hours during the morning rush period while the investigation was conducted. Nye was staying at a location on Old Pulaski Road, walked through the woods to Route 376, and stood in front of the truck, whose driver didn’t see him in time to avoid hitting him in the dark, state police said. The truck driver swerved in an unsuccessful attempt to miss Nye, according to State Police, who said Nye’s death was a suicide.

MYCAP at Wick Park

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) Community Action Awareness Day activities are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Wick Park Recreation Center inside Wick Park at 260 Park Ave. There will be food, refreshments, games, prizes, Bounce-Around for the children, face painting and other activities. Also, other Mahoning County nonprofit agencies will be on hand with information on their programs.

Parking is available on the street outside Wick Park or at MYCAP’s office, 1325 Fifth Ave., where free rides to the Wick Park Recreation Center will be provided by MYCAP’s Transportation Bus.

North Phelps closing

YOUNGSTOWN

The city of Youngstown will be closing North Phelps Street between Federal and Commerce streets beginning Monday for two days for underground utility work.

In addition, beginning Monday Lincoln Avenue between Wick Avenue and Hazel Street will be closed for installation of a sanitary sewer for three weeks.
