Pedestrian hit by truck, dies

PULASKI, PA.

A pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by the front bumper of an eastbound truck on Pa. Route 376, about a half mile east of Pa. Route 208, at 5:30 a.m. today, State Police in New Castle said. David William Nye, 46, of Route 68, New Brighton, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga. Route 376 eastbound was closed for several hours during the morning rush period while the investigation was conducted. Nye was staying at a location on Old Pulaski Road, walked through the woods to Route 376, and stood in front of the truck, whose driver didn’t see him in time to avoid hitting him in the dark, State Police said. The truck driver swerved in an unsuccessful attempt to miss Nye, according to State Police, who said Nye’s death was a suicide.
