Aide shot near Pa. school; lockdown as precaution

Published: Fri, May 10, 2013 @ 11:32 a.m.

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Police have arrested a suspect after a teacher’s aide was shot while walking near an elementary school in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Police have not identified the suspect or the victim, who was shot Friday about 10:20 a.m. near McKinley Elementary School in Erie, where she went inside for help.

The Erie Times-News reports the school has been locked down, but Deputy Chief Randy Bowers says students were never in danger. A county 911 dispatcher tells The Associated Press the lockdown is precautionary only.

All other schools on the city’s east side were also being locked down as a precaution.

Police didn’t immediately return calls about the suspect, who was at the police station.

The victim was treated by paramedics in the school’s office before being taken to a hospital, where her condition wasn’t immediately available.

Shots are fired NEAR an elementary school, but kids are not in danger. REALLY????

Who are they trying to lie to?

Thank goodness that no kids were outside. Students go outside for several reasons while at school.
