Meets American College of Surgeons criteria

The American College of Surgeons has verified the trauma center at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center as a Level III facility.
Level III verification means that Northside, an affiliate of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, has demonstrated leadership in the treatment of traumatic injuries and other complex life-threatening conditions, said Kirk Ray, ValleyCare and Northside chief executive officer.
The verification moving the Northside trauma unit up from provisional status was awarded by the American College of Surgeons’ Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of ACS’ Committee on Trauma.
The verification underscores the dedication of the hospital to ensure faster access to advanced care and immediate intervention for life-threatening events, Ray said.
“We are extremely proud of our success in achieving Level III status. Our dedicated trauma team deserves all of the credit,” he said.
Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma-care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual.
In addition to Northside, ValleyCare affiliates include Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland, and several outpatient facilities in the Mahoning Valley.
