2018 Games will promote Korean peace

SEOUL, South Korea

South Korean organizers say the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang will help promote peace on the divided Korean peninsula.

Kim Jin-sun, head of the local organizing committee, spoke Friday at a ceremony to launch the new logo for the games. The five-colored square represents where the earth meets the sky, and the design has its roots in the Korean alphabet.

Kim says the Olympics will be a “symbol of peace” and facilitate dialogue between the two Koreas.

Recently, North Korea threatened to attack the U.S. and South Korea in protest of military drills and international sanctions against its nuclear test.

Outgoing Football Association chairman David Bernstein has joined FIFA’s new anti-racism and discrimination task force.

Bernstein, who steps down from his role with the FA in July, will join a group led by FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb. Also in the group is AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, who was abused by fans.

The task force will meet for the first time Monday.

Bernstein says “anti-discrimination is a subject that is close to my heart and something that, in England, we have been keen to address with the FA-led Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Action Plan involving the whole domestic game.”

Villopoto joins select company with 3rd title

Ryan Villopoto made history last weekend, becoming the fourth rider to win three straight Supercross titles.

He isn’t about to let off the throttle for the final race.

When the Supercross season finishes tonight in Las Vegas, Villopoto will need to keep his focus to prevent a repeat of last season.

Three weeks after wrapping up the title earlier than anyone in the sports’ 39-year history, Villopoto wrecked at his hometown race in Seattle and tore his left ACL last season.
