New turnpike plazas to open May 22
The new Mahoning Valley and Glacier Hills service plazas on the Ohio Turnpike will open simultaneously at 12:01 a.m. May 22, just in time for the busy Memorial Day weekend travel time, and remain open around the clock, seven days a week, the Ohio Turnpike Commission announced today.
A formal ribbon-cutting will be at 9:30 a.m. that day at the Mahoning Valley plaza, which is the gateway plaza for traffic entering Ohio on the westbound side of the turnpike.
Gov. John Kasich, state legislators, turnpike commission officials and local dignitaries will be invited to the ceremony, said Lauren Hakos, marketing and communications manager for the 241-mile toll road that crosses northern Ohio.
The Glacier Hills plaza is on the eastbound side of the road.
Sunoco will be the fuel supplier and operate a convenience store at both plazas.
Panera Bread will provide around the clock food service, and Dairy Queen Grill & Chill with Orange Julius will be open lesser hours. Both will be on both sides of the road.
Both plazas, whose openings were postponed by construction delays, will feature Ohio tourist information booths.
