The week of May 6 is a special week for recognitions throughout our school district. We should all take time to show appreciation to special groups of educators working for the betterment of our youth on a daily basis.
First is our teaching staff in Canfield. This week, we recognize the dozens of outstanding teachers for whom education is more than a job — it’s a calling. The Board of Education and administration are grateful for the work they do and I encourage every Canfield community member to take time this week to thank an educator for their commitment to our youths’ future.
Recognizing those good efforts would be greatly appreciated by those staff giving their all to every youth walking through our hallways.
The second group is our Transportation Department. School Transportation Appreciation Week is set up to recognize the dedication our bus drivers have in their job transporting our youth to and from school, along with after school events.
Safety is the No. 1 goal we have each day with all of our students and it should give every parent peace of mind each day they give the transportation responsibility to our drivers. These individuals care deeply for all of their passengers and treat them as their own.
Again, our Board of Education and administration would like to recognize each member of our transportation department for their efforts every day.
We must never forget our custodians, secretaries and cafeteria workers. These fine members of our “Cardinal Family” work diligently to keep our facilities, offices and cafeterias working like a well-oiled machine. The care each of these staff members shows makes our entire Board of Education, administration and staff pleased to have them on “our team.”
On May 22, the entire student body of the Canfield Local School System will be participating in our first Trek for Technology fundraising event. We are inviting family and friends to join us in helping raise funds for technology in order to continue to provide a world-class education and learning experience for all of our students.
Students will walk around the high school track as many times as possible in one hour’s time. Students will also have an opportunity to receive a number of prizes based on their participation in the fundraiser. This activity will not only assist in updating outdated technology throughout the entire district, but students will have an opportunity to add an hour’s worth of wellness in their day.
If you would like to show support for “our kids” and the Trek for Technology program, find a student to make a donation or send a check to Canfield Local Schools’ Trek for Technology Fundraiser to the following address: Canfield Local Schools, 100 Wadsworth Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
As we head into our final month of school, continue to motivate our youth to push hard for the finish line as positive things will happen in return. Have a great May and be safe as the weather will continue to turn to more sunshiny days.
