Resurrection story

Bethseda Church of the Living God, 2611 Milton St., will present “The Resurrection Story” at 11:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. The play is directed by minister Derrick Moore of Pittsburgh. Elder Cicero Battee is host pastor.

Orthodox Lent

A Lenten retreat, sponsored by the Ukrainian Orthodox League of USA, is planned April 13 at Villa Maria Spirituality and Education Center. The theme is “The Journey Through Great Lent: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.“

Guest speaker is Dr. Gayle Woloschak.

Studies North

Jewish/Christian Studies/North will meet Wednesday at Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way, to discuss the role of sickness and healing in faith traditions. The group gathers at 12:30 p.m. with the study at 1.

Southington United Methodist Church, state Route 305, conducts a praise and worship service at 7 p.m. Saturdays.

Concert at church

St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., will continue its series of monthly concerts at 2 p.m. April 7. Featured will be Howard Howell and the Point 5 Band, Kris Harper and the Seraphim Gospel Chorus and the St. Patrick Gospel Choir. A blend of music from black to Southern Gospel will be presented.

Harper, director of music and Faith Formation at St. Patrick, also is director of SMARTS Sings and Seraphim Chorus, a non-denominational community chorus. Howell, a pianist and vocalist, directs the St. Patrick Gospel Choir.

The concert is open to the community. Free-will offerings will be accepted. For information, call 330-743-1109.

Focus on nuns

Sister Lisa Marie Belz of Cleveland will discuss the history and ministries of “Sisters in Northeast Ohio” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 16 at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road.

The “Women and Spirit” exhibit, which toured nationally, highlighted “Progress and Promise: Sisters Serving Northeast Ohio” exhibit at Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. The history of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown was included.

At First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., will present a Taiz service at 7 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary.

Larry Harris and the Motet Choir and choirs from St. Columba Cathedral, Poland Presbyterian Church and Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church will lead the candlelight service of music, chanted prayers and Scripture.

At 3 p.m. April 7, Dr. Mary Louise Bringle will present “Treasures Old and New: On the Hunt for a New Hymnal.” Dr. Bringle, professor of religious studies and chair of the Humanities Division at Brevard College, will introduce the new hymnal for the Presbyterian Church.

She also will speak at the 9:45 a.m. forum.

Monthly series

Villa Maria Spirituality and Education Center will continue its series Coffee and Contemplation on the theme “The Resurrection Appearances Invitation is to Live as Alleluia” from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 9.

Presenter will be Sister Ardath Blake.

First United Presbyterian Church, 109 W. Rebecca St., will conduct an Easter Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. with contributions by children. An Easter egg hunt will follow.

At Villa Maria

“Transformation in a Time of Uncertainty” is a program designed to engage people in exploring the time in which we live through a contemplative approach tapping into the participant’s faith and spirituality.

The conference will be May 4 led by Sister Nancy Sylvester, founder and president of the Institute for Communal Contemplation and Dialogue.
