Session to take place on manufacturing

The Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Coalition will host an informational session for manufacturers who want to learn more about the grant funding that helps support new processes, recruiting and hiring.

In partnership with the Advanced Materials and Diversified Manufacturing Industry Partnership of Mercer and Lawrence counties, the session will take place April 19, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center in Canfield. Reservations are required.

Those interested should RSVP to Sue Watson at, or call 330-307-3399.

Event to focus on disaster preparation

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley has partnered with Dominion East Ohio for a “Preparedness Day” on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eastwood Mall.

The goal of the event is to teach participants the importance of disaster preparedness.

Throughout the day, participants will be given the opportunity to take a pre-test and post-test to determine their safety and preparedness knowledge.

The five-minute test and follow-up will be completed by trained Red Cross and Dominion volunteers.

For those who take both parts of the test, they will receive a “safety backpack” sponsored by Dominion East Ohio. The backpack will be filled with safety supplies. For more information, visit oh/mahoningvalley.

Charitable donations from credit union

The Associated School Employees Credit Union has donated more than $2,100 to local charitable organizations.

Employees at the credit union participated in a yearlong “Casual for a Cause” program. Each employee dressed casually in exchange for a charitable donation.

Those employees chose which organizations would receive the funds. Among them were Someplace Safe, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Bella Women’s Center and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Red Cross seeks response volunteers

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is seeking volunteers for its disaster-response program, a team made up of local and regional volunteers.

Known as the Disaster Action Team, volunteers in this program have a chance to develop a comprehensive understanding of disaster response.

Volunteers are needed in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Those interested should visit
