U.S. Rep Ryan won’t seek governor nomination

U.S. Rep Ryan won’t seek governor nomination

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th, will not run for the Democratic nomination for Ohio governor next year, sources close to the congressman said today.

Ryan, first elected to Congress in 2002, will have a formal announcement later today.

Ryan has considered a gubernatorial bid for several months, but ultimately decided to not seek the office largely because of his return this year to the powerful U.S. House Appropriations Committee, sources said. The congressman was making calls to friends and political allies this morning to tell them of his decision.

Ryan was supposed to speak at tonight’s Ohio Democratic Party dinner in Columbus. He was to speak just before Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, a likely Democratic gubernatorial candidate and the last person to address the crowd at the dinner.

Ryan, who is not ready to endorse a candidate for governor, may not attend tonight’s dinner to give FitzGerald time alone in the spotlight, sources said.

Other potential Democratic candidates for governor include ex-Attorney General and Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray, who works in the President Barack Obama administration, and former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton.

When it was learned in December that Ryan would return to Appropriations, he told The Vindicator the appointment “will have some impact” on a gubernatorial bid, making it less likely he’d leave Congress.

Timmy Ryan can be a US Congressman from the valley until he no longer wants it or he is indicted for some misdeeds. This is standard procedure for valley democrats. In any event, Ohio citizens view all Mahoning Valley politicians as slimeballs or criminals or both since that is the track record. Marc Dann sure lived down to the reputation.

Timmy dated/is dating Pelosi's daughter. He has voted with Pelosi on every single vote.

I was really hoping that little Timmy would have run for governor. That way we could have gotten rid of him as our congressman . He's a joke and anyone who thinks he doing a good job is a fool.
Gdog timmy was dating Pelosers daughter, but she dumped him after the election, just because it isn't on the internet doesn't meant it isn't true. My niece lives in old Cally and they all heard about it out there
