1919: Members of the American Expeditionary Force from World War I convene in Paris for a three-day meeting to found the American Legion.
1964: Actress Elizabeth Taylor marries actor Richard Burton in Montreal; it is her fifth marriage, his second.
1988: A small bus operated by the Youth Services at Northside Medical Center erupts into flames on a downtown street, apparently from a ruptured gas tank. The bus is destroyed, but no one is injured.

1963: FBI agents arrest a 32-year-old Lawrence County man and charge him with a $16,000 robbery of the Citizens Bank branch at Call’s Plaza in new Castle, Pa.

1938: “Mayor” Francis Owens, East High School senior, serving as Youngstown’s Boy’s Day mayor, says the city is operating efficiently, but more should be done to control traffic.
The old Kyle homestead at 2126 Market St., built in 1846 and one of the last remaining Mahoning Valley landmarks, is razed to make room for a food market. Mrs. Tommy Thomas, the daughter of Elizas Kyle, is moving to a farm owned by the family in Boardman.
