Steelers basketball to play at Leetonia


The faculty and staff of Leetonia High School along with members of the community will face the Pittsburgh Steelers basketball team.

The game will be played at the Leetonia High School gym on April 5 at 8 p.m.

Members of the Steelers team consist of current players and alumni.

Tickets will be sold between the hours of 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Leetonia High School office.

Kent St. names Page golf course manager


Kent State University has named Jarrod Page as its golf course manager.

Page, a Kent State alumnus, returns to his alma mater after serving as operations manager the past year at Briarwood Golf Club in Broadview Heights.

In his new role, Page will supervise and be responsible for the detailed operation of the Kent State golf course, clubhouse, pro shop and maintenance including supervision of the golf course superintendent.

Usain Bolt to run relay at Golden Spike meet


Usain Bolt will again run at the Golden Spike meet in the Czech city of Ostrava.

The six-time Olympic champion will race for the seventh time at the meet, which is part of the new IAAF World Challenge series. It is scheduled for June 27.

This time, Bolt will join Jamaican teammate Yohan Blake, the 2011 world champion in the 100 meters, for the 4x100-meter relay.

Blake is expected to be Bolt’s toughest challenger at the Aug. 10-18 world championships in Moscow. The other two names on the relay team have yet to be named.

F1’s Ecclestone envious of Patrick success

MELBOURNE, Australia

Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone says he would like to lure Danica Patrick to the sport but acknowledges she would be unlikely to make the move.

As the pre-eminent female driver in motorsports, firstly in Indy Car and now in NASCAR, Patrick attracts a lot of new fans and sponsors.

Ecclestone told the F1 website that “she will hardly want to give up the exposure she has in the U.S. to come here and maybe not make it.”

“All the things that people worry about — whether a woman can cope with the G-forces and all that — she has proven that she can.”

Caixa Eletronica wins Big A’s Uncle Mo Stakes


Caixa Eletronica cruised to an easy comeback win as the 1-9 favorite, beating Broad Rule by 23/4 lengths on Thursday in the $73,500 Uncle Mo Stakes at Aqueduct Race Track.

Sent right to the front by Javier Castellano, the durable and classy 8-year-old earned his 20th win in 61 starts. It was the first race for the Todd Pletcher trainee since capturing the Fall Highweight Stakes at Aqueduct in November.

The time was 1:10.59 for the six furlongs on the fast track.

MLS punishes two Real Salt Lake players


Major League Soccer’s disciplinary committee has suspended Real Salt Lake defender Abdoulie Mansally one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for head-butting D.C. United midfielder Perry Kitchen in the 61st minute of Saturday’s game.

RSL forward Alvaro Saborio was fined for arguing with a referee at the end of the game, a 1-0 win by DC.
