Police kill knife-wielding man
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Martinsburg police say a Virginia man was shot and killed after pulling a knife on a group of officers and stabbing one of them.
The Journal reports that police shot 50-year-old Wayne Arnold Jones of Stephens City, Va., Wednesday night after he ignored orders to drop the knife.
Police say they stopped Jones while he was walking along a Martinsburg street. Jones told them he had a weapon but wouldn’t say what it was. Officers used a Taser on the man, a scuffle ensued and Jones stabbed an officer, forcing others to retreat. Police say they shot Jones several times after he refused to relinquish the weapon.
Five officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the West Virginia State Police investigate the incident.
