Sam Anas scored an unassisted goal with just over eight minutes left in the game as the Youngstown Phantoms returned to their winning ways with a 4-3 victory Thursday over the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
The Phantoms, who saw a five-game winning streak end on Sunday in Green Bay, Wis., beat the Saints despite being outshot 38-18.
Goaltender Sean Romeo made 35 saves as the Phantoms (29-21-0, 58 points) strengthened their hold on the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference of the USHL standings.
Dubuque (37-10-6, 80 points) has a comfortable hold on first place in the East and has clinched a playoff spot.
Austin Cangelosi assisted on two Phantom goals in the first period and added a goal of his own in the second period.
Cangelosi set up Cam Brown on a short-handed goal just 2:57 into the contest. After Mike Szmatula scored the first of his two goals for Dubuque to tie the game, Cangelosi assisted on a Kyle Connor goal at 17:54 of the first period.
Jarrid Privitera tied things at 2-2 at 9:04 of period two before Cangelosi tallied on assists from Connor and John Padulo at the 15:03 mark of period two.
Szmatula then tied the contest a third time with a goal just 36 seconds from the end of the period, setting up Anas’ final-period heroics.
