Austintown gymnasts place at national championships

The Ohio Gymnastics Institute Competitive Team competed at the Amateur Athletic Union Winter National Championships on Feb. 16 and 17 at the Spire Institute in Geneva. More than 500 boys and girls from five states and 23 gymnastics clubs competed in 13 different skill levels to determine this year’s 2013 AAU Winter National Event and All-Around Champions.

The Ohio Gymnastics Institute, located in Austintown, captured 25 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 22 bronze medals. Several youth from Austintown placed at the competition.

Savanna Slater (34.425) took fourth in the vault, third in the uneven parallel bars, fifth in the balance beam, seventh in the floor exercise and seventh all-around. Bailee Stewart (33.500) took 12th in the vault, 15th in the uneven parallel bars, 10th in the balance beam, 12th in the floor exercises and 14th all-around.

Gloria Hartzell (33.000) placed fifth in the vault, fifth in the uneven parallel bars, third in the balance beam, sixth in floor exercise, fourth all-around.

Paityn Philibin (34.425) took third in the vault and the uneven parallel bars and second in the balance beam, floor exercise and all-around. Mackenzie Solic (32.650) placed second in the vault, sixth in the uneven parallel bars and balance beam, fifth in the floor exercise and all-around.

Robert Stoy (54.800) took seventh in the floor exercise, second in pommel horse, sixth in rings, third in vault, seventh in parallel bars and high bar and sixth all-around. Alexia Stoy (35.400) took first in vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around. Alexis Paolone placed 10th in the vault and floor exercise, sixth in the uneven parallel bars, ninth in the balance beam and eighth all around.

Carissa Slater (33.800) placed ninth in the vault and balance beam, second in uneven parallel bars, eighth in the floor exercise and all-around. Savannah Grove (32.725) took seventh in the vault, sixth in uneven parallel bars, 11th in balance beam, sixth in floor exercise and ninth all-around. Giavonna Dilts (35.675) placed sixth in the vault and uneven parallel bars, fifth in balance beam, fourth in floor exercise and all-around.
