JCPenney in the Southern Park Mall remains closed

Published: Wed, March 13, 2013 @ 5:07 p.m.

BOARDMAN — JCPenney in the Southern Park Mall did not reopen Wednesday after it was closed during a construction project.

Workers doing construction on the second floor encountered a problem prompting the store to close. The rest of the mall remained open for business as usual, a mall spokeswoman said.

While it was first reported the store would reopen later Wednesday, a sign on a door later in the day informed shoppers that the store would, instead, re-open for business Thursday.

There was just an article on the top 10 companies that will have to close stores to be sustainable. With more than a 50% decline in sales compared to last year, JCPenney was on that list.

I think the one in Austintown and maybe the Eastwood Mall would close before the one in Boardman.

JCP has been destroyed by bad decisions from the top. I was a manager who was forced to retire at age 50, along with thousands of others. It was retire or be fired. We were then replaced by young college grads who had no retail experience, but would work at entry level wages and take orders from corporate without any input. This latest attempt to "re-invent" themselves was laughable. So sad to see this icon of American retailing be destroyed by a bunch of "smart guys" who never rang a cash register or waited on a customer in their lives.

JCP hasn't mattered since the 1980's. Why? Inept leadership, high product costs, dated stores, poor product choices.

Have to remember in the past year JCP's big blow up over a father's day ad featuring two gay dads.

Ellen DeGeneres as the spokesperson and representing the corporations "values"? That's their words.

When you cater to a fringe group that is 5% of the population and devalue traditional middle class values what do you think the outcome will be?

See you in bankruptcy JCP.
