Published: Mon, March 11, 2013 @ 4:36 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is in Mahoning County jail on a domestic-violence charge after allegedly setting fire to the South Side home of his girlfriend during a argument.

James Cummings, 68, appeared for arraignment on the misdemeanor charge today in Youngstown Municipal Court. He is scheduled back in court for a pretrial hearing March 21.

According to police reports, Cummings and the woman argued in her East Philadelphia Avenue home late Friday, and Cummings attempted to set a kitchen stove on fire. The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived, but they did notice smoke in the house and a burned box in the yard.
