Lecture to focus on Morgan’s Raid


The Canfield Historical Society’s spring lecture series will begin with a lecture by Atty. Tim Brookes on Morgan’s Raid during the Civil War. The lecture will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bond House, 44 W. Main St., across from the Canfield library.

The lecture is free and pre-registration is not necessary. For information, call the CHS at 330-533-3458

Brookes has served as president of the East Liverpool Historical Society since 1987 and has written numerous historical articles for “Timeline,” published by the Ohio Historical Society, and for “Military Images.” He is a Civil War enthusiast with a particular interest in the great raid of Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan into northern Ohio.

‘Lion King’ tickets on sale this week


Tickets for the return engagement of “Disney’s The Lion King” will go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday at the PlayhouseSquare ticket office; by calling 216-241-6000; and online at For orders of 20 or more, call 216-640-8600.

The musical will come to the State Theater July 11-Aug. 4. Curtain times are Tuesday through Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. There also will be a 1:30 p.m. matinee Aug. 1.

YSU guitar studio to perform at JCC


The Youngstown State University’s guitar studio will perform March 21 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown’s J Cafe, 505 Gypsy Lane.
