Joe Cunningham scored 22 points to lead the Cardinal Mooney High boys basketball team to a 61-46 victory over Salem on Saturday at Boardman High School.
It was the first district crown since 1998 for the Cardinals (12-11), who will play Warrensville Heights in the regional semifinals on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Canton Civic Center.

Oh Wow, a school that recruits from a tri county area beat a small public school! How fair is that!
so sad to see hate comments on this site-----Congratulations Cardinal Mooney, your the best in many ways.
Oh my God, gdog. Seriously bud, grow up. Mooney hasn't gotten out of the district in 15 years, but now that they finally do, they recruit in basketball, too?! Quit whining and work on making your school a winner instead of complaining about other people's successes.
Now they will face a good public school. Bye, Bye Cardinal Mooney.
Finally after 15 years of not recruiting they finally recruited and won. They must have had a terrible recruiter for those 15 years. BB is not to good around here.
Poland under Grisdale has 300 wins but about 240 of hem are against losing record teams.
It might even get worse?
that photo of the principal and player on the front sports page is really happy. ( gay )
