Canfield screening, registration set for kindergartners
Registration and screening for kindergarten students will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9 at C.H. Campbell Elementary School, 300 Moreland Drive, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16 at Hilltop Elementary School, 400 Hilltop Blvd.
Parents should register at the school their child will attend.
Call to schedule an appointment to register new students in grades first through fourth.
To register, the child must be a resident of the school district and to enter kindergarten, must be 5 years old by Sept. 30.
Children entering first grade must be age 6 by Sept. 30 and have com- pleted kindergarten.
The child’s birth certificate, original Social Security card, proof of residency, proof of custody, if applicable, and immunization records are required to register.
Required immunizations are five or more doses of DPT/DT/DTaP vaccine or a combination if the fourth does was administered before the child’s 4th birthday; four or more does of polio vaccine; two doses of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine with the first dose completed on or after the child’s first birthday; and three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine and two doses of chickenpox vaccine.
Choffin schedules official GED testing for March 19, 20
Official GED testing sponsored by Choffin Career and Technical Center, Adult Education Department, University System of Ohio will offer GED testing at 8:45 a.m. March 19 and 20 at Choffin.
All participants must be pre-registered and bring photo identification.

Struthers extends open-enrollment application process
The board of education has extended the open- enrollment application process for the 2013-14 school year.
Applications for kindergarten through 10th grade will be available at the board office, 99 Euclid Ave., from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Friday.
The deadline for returning the application has been extended to March 22.
Applications will be accepted for students in kindergarten through 10th grade and must be picked up in person at the board office.
No applications will be mailed.
Applications also must be returned in person to the board office by 3 p.m. March 22.
Applicants will receive written notice of the enrollment decision by April 15, except for kindergarten applicants will be notified after Aug. 19.
Board members appointed to state board panels
Members of three Mahoning County school boards have been appointed to committees at the Ohio School Boards Association.
Adrianne H. Sturm, a Canfield school board member, and Richard Atkinson, Youngstown School Board president, have been named members of the Northeast Regional Executive Committee.
Boardman School Board member John Landers has been appointed a member of the Legislative Platform Committee.
