McKinley Elementary School student Hannah Misko recently raised more than $825 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a large portion of which came from her own pocket.
“I first heard about donating to St. Jude’s at school,” said Misko. “We watched a video on it in class and I thought I could do something to help.”
Misko also walked around her neighborhood, as well as speaking to relatives, to explain why this cause was important to her. She was met with support, both in her community and in her family.
“It feels really nice to be able to help. Some people need this money a lot more than I do. I look around my room and I look at my family and I know that I have a lot of things, but there are some people who aren’t so lucky, so I wanted to give back to someone who actually needs it.”
Misko holds a lot of promise for the future and what St. Jude Children’s Hospital can do.
“What I would love to see is a cure for cancer,” Misko said. “Everyone can make a difference. If there are kids out there that want to help, I say if you have something you want to do, try.”
