Second chase suspect arraigned, bond set at $70K
YOUNGSTOWN — The second man arrested for a shooting and police chase in the city has been arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Brandon Jackson, 29, of Youngstown, appeared today through video arraignment before Magistrate Anthony Sertick of Youngstown Municipal Court. Jackson faces charges of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and illegal possession of a weapon.
Jackson was already free on a $75,000 bond from an earlier case. Atty. Mark Verkhlin, standing in for Atty. David Engler who will be representing Jackson, asked the court to continue the previous bond and allow Jackson to be released from Mahoning County jail.
Sertick made it clear that a bond continuance would not happen.
“He was already out on bond and now we have these charges. What would make you think I would simply continue this bond?” the magistrate said the defense lawyer before handing down a $70,000 bond on the new charges.
Police believe Jackson was with Sergio F. Gonzalez Jr. during a Sunday morning incident involving robbery, gunfire and the chase.
