The architect of the most successful era in Howland High School football history is reportedly set to retire from coaching today.
Dick Angle turned the Tigers into one of the best Division II programs in northeastern Ohio. His Howland teams were perennial playoff qualifiers.
Sources say Angle is expected to announce his retirement from a lengthy coaching career in an 11 a.m. news conference today at the high school.
Angle completed his 15th season at Howland in November. His final Tigers team finished 8-3, including a playoff loss against Chardon.
Angle’s record at Howland is 108-56.
Overall, including stops at Kennedy Catholic and Ursuline, his career record is 263-168-3.
