Poland Township crash victims identified, cause of accident still undetermined
Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators have released names of two men killed in a Poland Township accident Sunday and the name of a third man still hospitalized with serious injuries.
Louis J. Pullia, 49, of New Castle, Pa., was driving a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe west on New Castle Road with passengers Thomas A. Costello Jr., 55, and Charles E. Park Jr., 41, both also of New Castle, when the vehicle went off the left side of the road.
The car struck a mailbox before hitting a tree, according to a release by the patrol. The accident occurred about noon Sunday.
Pullia and Costello, who had been sitting in the front passenger seat, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Park was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center with life-threatening injuries, according to the release. He is listed in critical condition, according to hospital representatives.
The state patrol and Lowellville and Coitsville police assisted Poland Township and the Western Reserve Joint Fire District at the scene before the investigation was turned over to the state patrol.
None of the occupants was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers stated.
Representatives from the Mahoning County Coroner’s office were not available to comment on the investigation. The accident marks the first two traffic fatalities for Mahoning County in 2013.
