Black Keys members’ dads on radio show

Staff report

The Summit radio station (WKTL-FM 90.7) will invite Chuck Auerbach and James Carney, fathers of The Black Keys members Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, into the studio for upcoming episodes of “Life and Lyrics with Bill Hall.”

The show is a locally-produced radio program hosted by Summit on-air personality Bill Hall in which guests share their favorite music, stories and the impact those songs had on their lives. The half-hour show airs every Sunday at 8 p.m.

Chuck Auerbach will be on the show Sunday, and James Carney will be on March 10.

“Chuck and Jim are both active members of the Akron community, arts supporters and music aficionados in their own right,” said Liz Mozzocco, Summit music director. “But we also know that the music they played in their homes when Dan and Pat were growing up were influential on the Black Keys’ sound. We’re excited to hear about the songs that matter to Chuck and Jim, hear more about their lives and welcome them to the Summit studios.”

Chuck Auerbach is a folk-art dealer and songwriter. He penned the lyrics to “Whispered Words (Pretty Lies)” on Dan Auerbach’s solo record “Keep It Hid.” James Carney is a staff writer at the Akron Beacon Journal.

The two are neighbors and have supported their sons since their early days recording in an Akron basement.
