GM sales increase 7 pct.; Cruze sales drop by 12 pct.

Published: Fri, March 1, 2013 @ 10:31 a.m.

General Motors Co. announced today that it sold 224,314 vehicles in the U.S. last month, up 7 percent compared to the same time last year, but Chevrolet Cruze sales decreased for the second month in a row, dropping by about 12 percent.

Chevrolet, overall, gained 5 percent last month.

GM reported that sales of the Cruze dropped to 17,947 last month, from 20,427 a year earlier. Analysts have indicated that a drop in sales for the model is not unexpected, the Cruze had strong sales throughout the second half of 2012, and GM has pushed incentives on other models, luring buyers elsewhere.

All four of the automaker’s brands posted higher year-over-year sales. Cadillac was up 20 percent, Buick was up 15 percent and GMC was up 10 percent.

Most likely because the price went up and they've priced themselves out of the market. It's not rocket science, but it does seem to be logic that GM has never quite grasped.

I was on the lot a few days ago and they had a used 2011 Cruze LTZ for $14000 grand and a new one for $26000. Although the used one did have like 50k miles on it, seems like a large drop in value.

I knew it was only a matter of time before the ceiling fell out of the Cruze sales. They have over-priced it !
