Part of the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is the Summer Crisis Program, which gives eligible Mahoning County residents and others cooling assistance in summer. From Monday through Aug. 31, the program will help households that have incomes up to 175 percent of the 2013 Federal Poverty Guidelines. The maximum benefit for customers is $175, which may be used for electricity-bill assistance, and/or provision of an air conditioner. The maximum benefit for customers served by rural electric cooperatives and municipal utilities is $250. For eligibility information or to make a required appointment, call MYCAP at the Youngstown office toll free at 866-223-1125, or at the office in Sebring at 330-938-6166. Some walk-ins will be seen at the Youngstown office at 8 a.m. weekdays beginning Monday. Walk-in customers are those with no electricity service.
