The Mahoning County Early Childhood Partners Committee, consisting of nine local agencies, will host “Kindergarten! … Here I Come!” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Velma Davis Education & Visitor Center, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek MetroParks, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown.

Children entering kindergarten this fall, their families and the community at large are invited to the free event, said Camille Stanford, deputy director of Early Childhood Education at the Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership.

Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, 8010 Market St., is having its first Adopt-A-Palooza event from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The event, at which six animal adoption groups from the Mahoning Valley will have adoptable dogs and cats available, is free and open to the public.

The event includes demonstrations in canine obedience, tricks and agility, and by the Boardman Police Department K9 unit; food, pet merchandise for sale and prizes. For a list of participants and schedule of events, visit and click on “Adopt-A-Palooza”.

CPR mobile tour

The American Heart Association’s national CPR Mobile Tour will make stops at Southern Park Mall in Boardman from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdayat the Lordstown General Motors Complex/United Autoworkers of America Reuther-Scandy Alli Hall to offer free training to the public on how to perform the life-saving skill of Hands-Only CPR.

The goal of the mobile tour is to train hundreds in the area in the Hands-Only CPR technique, which has two simple steps: Call 9-1-1 and push fast and hard in the center of the chest. To register for either training, visit and click on the registration link.

Wing King


The sixth annual Wing King Cook-Off to benefit the United Way of Mercer County is from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot between Quaker Steak & Lube and Tully’s Restaurant.

Tickets are $20 per person on or before Wednesday and $25 the day of the event and at the door. For advance tickets and information, call UWMC at 724-981-1884 or visit the UWMC office, 493 South Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa. The first 500 attendees will receive a free Wing King souvenir.

In addition to trophies for the winners, the Wing Cook-Off will feature drink specials, a disc jockey, corn-hole competition, raffles, door prizes and 28 different flavors of wings from Our Gang’s Lounge and Quaker Steak & Lube in Sharon; Giant Eagle in Hermitage; Thelma’s Sports Nook in Sharpsville, Pa.; Sidebar & Grille in Mercer, Pa.; Laddie’s Sky Club in Masury; and Lanigan’s Irish Pub in New Castle, Pa.

Free examinations


Dr. Jim Mussler, chiropractic physician and owner of WellnessOne of Boardman, is offering free examinations June 24-28 to anyone who makes a donation of at least $25 to the Poland Relay for Life, which is July 12-13.

He is offering the examinations in honor of his mother, LuLu Mussler, who died of Hodgkins lymphoma in 2008. Call 330-758-9567 to make a donation and an appointment.
