ONCE AGAIN THIS SPRING SPORTS
season, high school athletes in the region have done the Mahoning Valley proud.
Dozens of distinguished track and field stalwarts and baseball heroes earned the right to compete in state-championship level competitions in Columbus this month. As usual, those athletes did not disappoint.
Even though perennial Valley sports powerhouse Ursuline High School and the talented Springfield Local baseball squads came home from Huntington Park in Columbus shy of a 2013 state championship, they represented their schools, communities and the Mahoning Valley exceptionally well.
So, too, did the legions of state track and field state finalists, including 2013 state champions Anthony Shivers of Salem, and the Warren JFK triumphant triumvirate of Chad Zallow, Carl Zallow and Morgan Rice.
Our hearty congratulations to them and to all of this year’s accomplished finalists.
