Today’s entertainment picks:

v Simply Slavic, noon to 12:30 a.m.: Music and dance highlight this colorful street festival that celebrates the area’s Eastern European heritage. It’s on East Federal Street in downtown Youngstown.

v Tri-State Pottery Festival, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.: Amusement rides, an art show, the Pottery Olympics and the infamous doorknob tossing competition are the highlights of this festival in downtown East Liverpool.

v St. Nicholas parish festival, 6 p.m.: It’s been around for 40 years, so it has to be good. The church grounds are 764 Fifth St., Struthers.

v 7 Bridges, 6 p.m.: Opening the show for this Eagles tribute band is fiddle-playing favorite Chris Higbee. Warren Community Amphitheatre, 321 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren; riverrockattheamp.com.

v “Godspell,” 7 p.m.: Stage Left Players’ energetic production of the musical is at Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way, Lisbon; 330-831-7249.

“A Tribute to Mel Brooks” (9 p.m., TNT): On the “AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Mel Brooks,” director Martin Scorsese leads a black-tie celebration of the comedy legend who gave us “Blazing Saddles,” “Young Frankenstein” and “The Producers.”

“Redneck Island” (9 p.m., CMT): Who will be the survivor?

“Community Connection” (7 a.m. Sunday on 21 WFMJ-TV and 7 p.m. Tuesday on Time Warner Cable community access channel): Hospice of the Valley is sponsoring a grief camp for children who have lost loved ones or experienced any type of loss. Kim Calhoun, bereavement facilitator, will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss the camp.

Next, community advocate Deryck Toles of Inspiring Minds will discuss the program and its accomplishments, which include Youth Summer Enrichment Programs to the Inspiring Minds Gala and Celebrity Golf Outing.

“Increase the Peace” (6:30 p.m. today on MyYTV): The Rev. Kenneth L. Simon, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, and Rev. Henry McNeil, assistant pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church, are introducing the Community Faith Credit Union. They will join host Andrea Mahone.

“Sunday Morning with Dee” (8:30 a.m. Sunday on WKBN-TV 27): As summer approaches, MYCAP (Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership) has a number of programs on the horizon. Joining host Dee Crawford will be Doug Sherl, Camille Stanford and Summer Blakeny to discuss upcoming events.

VexFest will return, seeks performers

Youngstown

VexFest, the free annual rock festival on West Federal Street, downtown, will return Aug. 11 after a one-year absence. The all-day event will feature nonstop music on two outdoor stages.
