Published: Sat, June 15, 2013 @ 3:52 a.m.

Two guns were among several other items taken in a break-in at a home in the 200 block of Gaither Street on Thursday, police said.

According to a police report, officers were called to the home by the homeowner at about 3:30 p.m.

He told police he had left for work at 7 a.m. and came home after a neighbor called and told him he heard the sound of glass breaking at his home.

The homeowner called 911 after seeing his back door kicked in.

A 9mm and a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun along with a flat-screen television, a camera and several other items were taken, police said.

Home owners providing a ready source of guns with no background checks puts everyone in the city at risk. LETS GET ALL OF THE GUNS OFF THE STREETS!

If you're caught committing a crime, the punishment should be "X." If you were using a gun in the commission of that crime, the punishment should be "2X." And if the gun was stolen, the punishment should be "4X." No breaks, no plea-bargains. THAT's how you reduce gun crime.

Why should every law abiding citizens right to bear arms be revoked because of thugs and criminals? Why should law abiding citizens be forced to relinquish they guns for no warranted reason? Why should law abiding citizens give up their ability to defend themselves, their family, and their home?

It's a sad day when people would choose to give up their liberties for freedom, because in the end, you'll end up with neither.

The solution is simple, it just isn't being implemented. Most guns are sold with a chamber lock that prevents anything from entering the magazine or chamber. That includes fingers, rocks, and of course ammunition. People need to be more proactive in protecting their firearms by locking them in a safe, or if you can't afford a safe, use the chamber locks that are a fraction of the cost.

For people who are afraid of guns, I urge you to educate yourself or attend a gun safety class. You'll learn that these law abiding citizens are being taught how to properly manage, control, and use your firearms. If you don't own one, that's fine; you could still go through the steps and help ease your fears about other people who legally own and/or carry a gun.

Jive Great post But you will always have people who think that everyone should just GIVE UP everything to be safe. Well, as we all know that doesn't work . Those that want to do that, might as well be slaves.
