Ohio AG's painkiller drug czar to lead the state's medical board

Published: Fri, June 14, 2013 @ 10:16 a.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — The man who has led the state attorney general’s efforts to crack down on prescription painkiller abuse has been chosen as the new executive director for the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Aaron Haslam is a former Adams County prosecutor. The 34-year-old begins his new job with the medical board July 1.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Haslam replaces Richard Whitehouse, who was ousted from the role last fall and said he wasn’t told why he was dismissed.

In Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office, Haslam has helped target doctors and clinics suspected of trying to profit from unnecessary prescriptions of pain medication.

It’s an issue that the medical board also has taken an interest in.

Oh wonderful just who we need setting medical policy when its already almost impossible to get prescription narcotic pain killers for those who genuinely can't survive with out them.
