AG: Leaker will be held accountable

Published: Fri, June 14, 2013 @ 1:53 p.m.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder says national security has been damaged as a result of leaks about a pair of government surveillance programs and that the U.S. will punish the person who is responsible.

The attorney general made the comment in Dublin, Ireland, when asked by reporters why the U.S. hasn't taken steps to arrest former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

Holder said the government is investigating and that he is confident the person who is responsible will be held accountable.

The attorney general was in Dublin for meetings with his law-enforcement counterparts.

Will Mr Holder see to it that the government worker, i.e., the then CIA Director, who gave movie producers "top secret" information about the SEAL team and their tactics when they dispatched bin Laden be held accountable? (Oh, wait: even though it compromised national security, that was a "good" leak since it made the president look good. Never mind. Enjoy your retirement, Mr Panetta. But Mr Snowden? Keep an eye out for a drone with your name on it.)

AtownAugie... reminds you of the Bush administration when Richard Armitage revealed the covert status of Valerie Plame, a central Intelligence Agency officer, as retribution against her husband Ambassador Joseph Wilson. (Oh, wait: even though it could have killed her, that was a "good" leak since it was a payback. Enjoy your retirement Mr. President. But Valerie Plame? Keep looking over your shoulder.
