Window washers trapped near top of NYC skyscraper

NEW YORK (AP) — Firefighters are working to rescue two window washers stuck near the top of a New York City skyscraper after a scaffold collapse.

Fire department officials say the rescue operation is underway at the Hearst Building in midtown Manhattan, with workers cutting open windows on the 44th floor to try to pull the men in.

The men are trapped in the scaffolding outside the 45th floor, hanging from the side of the building about 400 feet above the street.

A rescue crew is on the roof of the 600-foot-tall building.
