Cookout classic

Published: Wed, June 12, 2013 @ 12:00 a.m.

Cookout classic

No picnic or potluck is complete without potato salad. Whether it’s served warm, cold, creamy, cheesy or with a splash of vinegar, the dish is a true American cookout classic. Potato salads are easy to make and even easier to pack full of flavor. Recipes, including one for Loaded Baked Potato Salad (above), on C2.

No Knead Bread Mix

Never baked bread?

Fleischmann’s Simply Homemade No Knead Bread Mix is a good first step.

Mix water into the box’s contents (packets of yeast, sugar, bread mix), shape dough into a loaf, let rise, then bake.

Testers found this dough easy to handle, produced an artisan-sturdy loaf and took less than an hour (57 minutes to be exact) from start to finish.

In Country White, Stoneground Wheat, Multi-Grain and Italian Herb, its suggested retail price: $2.99 for a 14-ounce box.

A store locater is at simplyhomemadebread.com.

Asian appetizers

The many P.F. Chang’s dinner-for-two products in the supermarket freezer aisle are now joined by five frozen appetizers. There are two kinds of spring rolls and three kinds of little dumplings. All come with a sauce packet. In one store, where the 22-ounce dinners are $9.99, the 12-ounce bags of five spring rolls and 12.5-ounce bags of 14 dumplings are $6.99.
