Pizza Hut donations
For each Personal Pan Pizza sold during June, July and August, Pizza Hut will donate 10 percent of its net sales to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s Success By 6 initiative, United Way’s pre-kindergarten readiness summer program. All 12 Pizza Hut locations in Mahoning and Trumbull counties are participating in the promotion.
“We are very appreciative of Pizza Hut’s partnership with our United Way and its support of youth and education initiatives,” said Bob Hannon, local United Way president.
Last year, nearly 600 children in 18 local school districts benefited from this program better preparing them to start kindergarten in the fall, Hannon said.
The Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley’s Harvest for Hunger Campaign 2013 raised $81,618 and collected more than 42,322 pounds of food to help feed families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
“We thank the residents of the Mahoning Valley and Harvest for Hunger sponsors Giant Eagle, 21 WFMJ & WBCB, The Vindicator, Cumulus Radio Stations Y-103, HOT101, K-105 and United Food And Commercial Workers Local 880 for a successful campaign,” said Michael Iberis, Second Harvest executive director.
Individuals gave donations of food and funds at Giant Eagle and Sparkle markets, and companies, organizations and schools held food and funds drives during Harvest for Hunger, a monthlong food and funds drive held during in March and April to replenish food supplies during the summer months when donations tend to taper off and the need increases for child friendly food, Iberis said.
Second Harvest provides food to 153 hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. For information on how to help, visit www.mahoningvalleysecondharvest.org online or call 330-792-5522.
