Suspected drugs, handgun confiscated in Boardman traffic stop

BOARDMAN — Township police recovered suspected marijuana and a loaded handgun during a routine traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Donte Perry, 22, of Aravesta Avenue, Boardman, and girlfriend Sheray Carter, 25, of Council Rock Drive, Youngstown, were pulled over on Midlothian Boulevard after police discovered the owner of the vehicle they were in had a suspended license.

Perry told police the car was his cousin’s but that Perry’s license was also suspended. Carter, who told police she took her seat belt off after they were stopped, was asked to step out of the vehicle after police noticed a small bag of suspected marijuana next to her. She told police it was hers. Police also recovered a loaded handgun that Carter also said was hers, according to a report.

Carter said she has been threatened a lot lately and feels that she needs to carry the gun for her protection, police said.

The gun was unloaded and taken by police. Carter was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. She later posted her $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here Tuesday, according to a report. Perry was released on a citation for driving under suspension.
