Obama administration is using intimidation with shades of fascism

Obama administration is using intimidation with shades of fascism

I have been politically active for most of my life. Never have I seen a more serious threat to our nation and our liberty than the current IRS scandal. This is government at its worst.

One can rationalize, apologize, theorize or legalize. There is no excuse for using the IRS, the FBI, or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for political intimidation. It is illegal with overtones of fascism and communism. There is no selective enforcement of the law for political purposes. There is no “nuance,” as opined in The Vindicator last week.

For those who are willing to dismiss what has happened as just a tea-party thing, you should remember it was the Progressives who pioneered the use of 501(C)(3) and (4) organizations as political vehicles. The sanctity of donor lists as applies to these organizations dates back to the NAACP during the civil-rights movement. More recent examples include ACORN, Media Matters, Moveon.org, and the Ruckus Society (the Occupy Wall Street people).

The president’s campaign committees from both elections have morphed into a 501(C) (4) called Organizing for Action. One hears of no IRS holdup or scrutiny for any of these groups. All of these organizations have used 501 (C) vehicles to promote a political agenda in the guise of community organizing, media research or social welfare. But let the tea party take a page from the Progressive playbook, and all hell breaks loose.

I support all public servants. The IRS has a thankless job. Most employees are good and honest civil servants trying to do good work. But something happened. You have to be off in space not to begin to connect the dots. These good employees could not and would not have come up with this on their own. Somebody had to tell them to do it. They achieved their goals. It helped swing an election.

Election campaign laws are neutral. It’s the enforcement that is bad. The erosion of freedom comes slowly so it’s not noticed. The current administration is walking a very thin Nixonian line.

It is corrupt to the core. Today they went after the tea party. Who will they go after tomorrow?

When it happens to you, it’s not so funny. Government largesse or scrutiny is a door that swings both ways.

Youngstown policeman enhanced visit to city for Pickler concert

On May 29, my daughter, sister and I headed to Youngstown and Stambaugh Auditorium to see country singer Kellie Pickler perform. The concert was great. Pickler and her opening act both put on a great show.

When we got to the auditorium, we saw a Youngstown police officer (Joe Fergus) who we stopped to ask about parking.

He was just so nice and went out of his way to show us the best place to park, and when we went to cross the street he helped us cross safely.

I just wanted to give a shout out to him as he went above the call of duty and made himself available to us twice that evening.

America must remain vigilant against acts of domestic terrorism

Should we as a nation become more aggressive in domestic surveillance after the Boston Marathon bombings?

As more and more people of interest come forward in this incident, these questions are asked: Could this have been foreseen?

Is our intelligence-gathering community missing key indicators, or are they hampered by political red tape?

Should we look at how intelligence is gathered and reviewed and what may slip through the creaks?

Great care must be taken, however, to ensure that the rights of the individual are never in jeopardy.

We have enemy combatants on American soil just waiting to get the phone call. A good example is the Anna Chapman ordeal of a few years ago, when the KGB was alive and well here in the United States.

Islamic militant groups are also a threat and are ever present both here and abroad. We must become ever vigilant to this growing threat to our security. A clear and present danger exists and must be addressed with all deliberate speed to identify these threats to our national security, both foreign and domestic.

Concealed-carry permit holders need education on limits of use

Fox News recently reported that a young military veteran, in defending his home from a would-be break-in by a burglar, was arrested and in big trouble.

The news report made it sound as if this was a terrible injustice. They reported the home owner kept firing his gun at the assailant as he was running away. That is where the big trouble happened. Military training to the contrary, I hope the criminal-justice system cuts him some slack.

Any concealed-carry class will teach students that when the aggression against you or your family has stopped, your deadly response stops. While you can legally have a gun in your home for personal defense, you must know the rest of the laws covering its use.

Home ownership and concealed-carry permits for firearms are only that — to own and/or to conceal and carry.

If you fire or even brandish your weapon, there are other laws that cover those infractions, and you better know them.

Gun ownership for self-defense requires responsible and safe-handling knowledge. Concealed- carry classes are worth their weight in gold.

All involved in Austintown schools helped district earn highest rating

Austintown Local SCHOOLS recently received the Excellent with Distinction rating from the Ohio Department of Education for the 2011-12 school year. As a past member of the Austintown Board of Education for 28 years, I congratulate the residents of Austintown, the parents of our students, the students, the teachers, staff, members of the Board of Education and our Superintendent Vincent Colaluca.

The Excellent with Distinction rating from the Ohio Department of Education is a great honor achieved with dedication of all involved with the education of our Austintown students.

This rating places the Austintown schools above many other schools in the United States and indicates that the Austintown schools are among the best in kindergarten through 12th-grade education standards. This is not an award that is given but an award that is earned by all involved.

I am proud to be a resident of Austintown and proud to say that our schools received the Excellent with Distinction rating, a designation that does not come easy.

Congratulations to everyone for a job well done.

Ii wholly agre with Atty. Mangie and his statements in his letter. The sad truth Mr. Mangie is that most Americans know more about the details of Dancing With The Stars than what is happening in our own country. America is in decline and shorly will devolve into a 2nd class world power. Prosperity breeds apathy, and America is living proof of that. The Obama minions will defend this Adminstration if they were to conduct public hangings of their opponents. Sad times for the the former Greatest Society in the history of the world.

To Mark Mangie,
I might take your comments more seriously if they were grounded in facts.

Unless you have evidence to the contrary, Organizing for Action is not a 501 c 4 organization, and as of two weeks ago they had yet to apply for that status.

Because there is no 1024 application from OFA, there is nothing for the IRS to "hold up", there is nothing to scrutinize.

On the other hand, if you are serious about the truth, take a look at the 1024 for Crossroads GPS, specifically at question 15 on that application.

Or look at the 1024 for the West Virginia Conservative Foundation, their application clearly says they do not and will not spend money influencing selection, nomination or election. And yet that is exactly what they did. Check their website and the political ads they ran.

Attorney Mangie,
Your comments seem very Rebublican. The truth of the matter is that President Obama is doing a fine job and was re-elected following a Republican era that was terrible and you cannot stand it. Don't even get me started on the Bush era. The republican party has tried to block almost everything this president has attempted to accomplish. The voters need to remember this when they go to the polls and vote Democrat!!

"In carrying its work, OFA will operate as a "social welfare" organization within the meaning of section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code."

There is your proof right there, right off Organizing for Action's website. You can read about it in its "About" Section, or you can read about it on Wikipedia.

So either they are a 501(c)4, or they are not and they are holding themselves out to be one. Which one is it?

7Alexinytown(246 comments)posted 1 year, 2 months ago

While they might have two years to fill out the paperwork as they claim, the fact they are still soliciting funds under the guise of the 501(c)4 framework to me seems about on par with how the Obama Administration does business.

To me, that is a pretty shady move, but given everything this administration claims not to have been involved in the last five years, I am not surprised they would operate in this manner.

@Alexinytown:
Important phrase is "WILL operate"

from US News & World Report, Dateline May 15, 2013
“Organizing for Action, as it's now called, has not yet filed for tax-exempt status. Officials with the group say they are only in their fourth month of existence and federal law says it has two years to file paperwork with the IRS, though they plan on operating in the same manner as the targeted groups.
In carrying its work, OFA will operate as a 'social welfare' organization within the meaning of section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code," the group's website states.
Organizing for Action, however, has said it is voluntarily opting not to accept money from corporations and disclose all donors giving more than $250 on their website on a quarterly basis”

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2...

The second sentence of the Treasury Inspector General's report (May 14, 2013) may help clarify this for you. He writes" Other organizations, such as social welfare organizations, may file an application but are not required to do so".

Totally agree, Mr. Mangie. The DEMOCRAT party of today is NOT the Democrat party of the 1960's where JFK stated "Ask NOT what your country can do for you. Ask WHAT you CAN DO for your country". Democrats today expect government to provide healthcare, education, rental subsidies, food stamps, etc. while the DEMOCRAT Platform promotes abortion, gay marriage and more gov't dependency and even taking "GOD" out of the DEMOCRAT PLATFORM. Sadly, the 53% DEMS who re-elected Obama are your "LOW information voters" who have NO CLUE relative to the serious issues facing America. The best hope is IMPEACHMENT for the Benghazi debacle, IRS targeting, AP & Rosen 1st amendment abuse and now the State Dept sex abuse/coverup.

Atty. Mangie, in reading your screed, I am reminded of some lines from the movie, No Country for Old Men:

Anton Chigurh: "You mean the nature of this conversation?"
Carson Wells: "I mean the nature of *you*."
If I'm a client of yours, I think I'm headed for the door. Yeah, Obama the fascist! LOL! If he was, he would be sending his Muslim Socialist Kenyan Death Squads out to Canfield to pull you out of bed and send you to the gulag!
As for the Tea Party nonsense; the "Tea Party" got Obama re-elected last November with their lunatic agenda and nutty candidates. No one in our history ever won re-election to office in such a down economy; yet the Tea Party came to Obama's rescue. Obama doesn't want anything to happen to the Tea Party before they destroy the Republican Party. Neither does Hillary.

Keep yelling "Benghazi" and "IRS" till you pass out. Keep referencing right-wing conspiracy theories from every website you kooks visit. It will do you no good. Obama will be President until 2016, when Hillary will replace him.
You and the rest of your right-wing-nut friends are beyond it all. Actually quite funny. There is no doubt the major factor is your hate of Obama's skin color. Amazing how denial takes over these people and then they get defensive when you hit them with the truth. FYI: Theres nothing you can do!! This administrations roll is to change our type of government more to the liking of Shiites and Muslims who are administration is so disparately trying to mirror. One of the commentators called TEA party members "loons". I don't understand that. Their position (the Tea Party) is that the Federal Government is out control, that we pay too much in taxes for programs that don't work (apart from outright waste) and that the taxpayers should have greater control as to how their (hard-earned) money is spent.

Now, if That is "Lunacy", then, I guess, I prefer lunacy to so-called "Sanity" (defined by the Liberals) any day!

Furthermore, the Tea Party position and attitude is very close to that of the Patriots who founded this country: the original Boston Tea Party which resisted British oppression. If they had "knuckled under" to central authority, we'd still be British Subjects. Remember, Our Constitution gives us, the People, the right to overthrow a government which becomes oppressive (Liberals don't like to hear that- which is why they hate the Constitution- except where it suits their purposes).

If the Tea Party members remind me of Boston Patriots, it's equally true, Liberals, most of them, remind me of Bolsheviks. They preach class envy and hatred in exactly the same way. And we know what the Bolsheviks did to the Russian People- subjected them to 70 years of tyranny and impoverishment.

Where to begin?? First I need to stop laughing. OK.
zz3...I see that you have over 600 comments; your life must pretty much revolve around trying to get people to come around to your way of....well, I can't call it "thinking"...you win the award for the most contradictory, illogical and just damn funny post I've ever seen!!! You reveal your problem with one line, "More entitlements and more illegals"...you don't like African-Americans, therefore you feel vast resentment that one is President while a smart guy like you is alone writing nonsense...and you don't like Latinos, Asians, etc....because you're this upright, hardworking individual who never uses government resources...LOL!!! Now, you're mad at Obama for sending arms to Syria??? You must have been on fire for Bush's eight years....you, my extremist friend are a tragedy of Biblical proportions....

Next, kurtw, you say, " the Federal Government is out control, that we pay too much in taxes for programs that don't work"...well, I see quite a few old folks in the Tea Party out there just pleased as punch to be collecting out-sized Social Security benefits compared to their contribution and Medicare benefits that a millionaire could not pay for, all the while crying abut "government programs". You really are all just mad at those you call the "takers", on "welfare", but not all of the "takers", just the dark-skinned ones. The Tea Party came about in response to the election of the first black man as President...it was the last straw for white America and everything else that you extremists complain about, while using government resourses yourself, springs from your bigotry. Truth be told, the "entitlements" that you are so worried about do not amount to a pimple on the butt of money spent on Defense, Social Security and Medicare. Hate-on, brother, hate-on. America is changing for the better and you right-wing-nuts are headed to the dustbin of history.

For PH- Nice rant! So, whose the Looney? All I said is that Tea Party supporters reminded me of Boston Patriots and Liberals (most of them) reminded me of Bolsheviks. I stand by my statement.

And, by the way, none of this (at least for me and, I believe, the overwhelming majority of Conservatives is RACIAL) the race issue is just a "red herring" thrown out by Libs to deflect attention from the real issues.Bottom Line: Obama is a nice, highly intelligent African-American man with a nice family with whom I disagree on issues. Jimmy Carter was a nice, highly intelligent Southern Caucasian man with a nice family with whom I disagreed on issues. Get it? Both Liberals- with similar values- and my opposition to them is based on their values, not their skin color and, I believe, the majority of Conservatives feel that way. So, who is the real racist?

By the way, Liberals- Democrats in general- haven't done a hell of a lot to benefit African-Americans in a long time- if they ever did. Look at their actual record- discounting the stump speeches. Makes pretty sad reading. Only an Ostrich with their head in the sand would continue supporting that party.

C'mon Hannibal! I gave you more credit than that. "Playing the race-card", as you accuse me of doing, is first nonsense and second not an indication that a person is a "racist". The definition of "racist" is "a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others". Even with your small-mindedness, you must agree nothing in my comments meets that definition.
However, your knee-jerk use of the term "race-card" is the first defense that right-wing extremists use whenever faced with the truth about what fuels their resentment of "entitlements", the "takers" in society, and President Obama. The psychological term is "transference", in psychoanalysis, the process by which emotions and feelings originally associated with one person, such as a parent or sibling, are unconsciously shifted to another person.
The Tea-Party is a 99.9% white organization that was formed in the cauldron of the right-wing rage at having a black man elected President. No other reason. That is not "playing the race card". That is "playing the truth-card". Hate-on, brother, have another cup of tea and hate-on.

So Tea Party members are mostly white, what does that prove? It has nothing to do with any of the issues they raise. I can think of other organizations- NAACP, Urban League, Junior League, Opera Guild, etc. etc.- you name it- that are mostly one race or gender or socioeconomic group or whatever- and that fact proves absolutely nothing- it's a statistical artifact.

The fact is, anybody- of whatever race who wants to go to a Tea Party Rally- would be welcome and treated with respect. (I saw news footage of their rallies and that fact was clearly in evidence, which is more than can be said of the "Occupy Wall Street" lefto-rallies: public defecation, rape, anti-Semitic rants, etc: a kind of deranged, debased, corrupted "Woodstock".)

For that matter, talking about race and gender statistics, most African-Americans and most Women vote for Democrats (90 per cent in the case of Blacks, unbelievable considering the racist history of that party). The only thing I can say to that- as Rush Limbaugh likes to say- these are "low-information" voters. Anybody knowledgeable- especially in history- couldn't possible support that corrupt gang.

P.S. For evidence locally, look at the Mahoning Valley: what has exclusive Dem Control for 70 years done for, or, more specifically, TO us all this time? Study the record. And cry in your beer.

Democrats are so dramatic, and politicians love to throw government entitlements out to increase their voting base. They have stifled business growth with their healthcare plan and high taxes which I believe is just what they want to keep everyone dependent.

Just wait until they grant amnesty to 30 million illegals who will get on the government dole at the expense of the tax payer for food stamps, welfare and free health care. Flooding the economy with illegals will keep wages low and stagnate for a decade.

Keep in mind the fed will stop printing money soon and this will increase interest rates and inflation. We will all be shopping at Wal-Mart, as our economy and way of life adjusts to the rest of the world.

This, I believe, is this administration's strategic goal is to make everyone equal which is fascist!

Honor the Constitution.

Govt. fiscal responsibility..

Responsibility and Accountability of citizenry...

States Rights...

Freedom of Speech..

Freedom of Religion..

The Right to bear Arms..

Have you ever witnessed the aftermath of a Tea Party Rally? How about an Occupy event? A Right to Life rally? The differences really do say a lot about all of these folks....Some choose to be responsible and clean up after themselves... And others expect someone else to clean up after them..

Dems: Do you really think its okay for Obama to be a liberty-stealing, war-mongering power abuser just because George Bush was? I get it, Republicans annoy you because they loved a mediocre GOP president and ignored all his obvious shortcomings. Can you not see that you are doing the same thing? I sure remember a lot of outspoken freedom/privacy/peace loving Democrats back during the Bush era. Where are your voices now?

Reps: Seriously, you can't complain about Obama if you were defending or supporting Bush. You just can't.

Everyone: Ditch the parties because they are manipulating you. Republicans suddenly want immigration reform just like Obama suddenly changed his mind on gay marriage (at age 50). It wasn't sympathetic immigrant stories or seeing Sasha's and Malia's friends with gay/lesbian parents that sparked these changes of heart, it was votes.

Study the Constitution and history - then make your own decisions and please stop blaming the other side.
