Howland dentist indicted on 15 counts of aggravated drug trafficking
Mark D. Jones, 48, of 3164 Ridge Road in Fowler Township, a Howland dentist, has been indicted on 15 felony counts of aggravated drug trafficking dating back to 2011.
Jones appeared in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on Friday morning, pleading innocent to the charges and being released after posting $10,000 bond.
He was indicted secretly on the charges, which accuse him of trafficking Oxycodone in bulk quantities from March 2011 through December 2011. Jones’ dental practice is at 8799 E. Market St.
The Ohio State Dental Board sanctioned Dr. Jones in November 2011 for failing to maintain proper infection control at his dental practice.
His dental license was reinstated in July 2012 and is still active, according to the Ohio State Dental Board website. He was allowed to practice no more than 32 hours per week and was required to be on probationary terms.
In April 2012, Jones entered into a consent agreement with the Ohio State Dental Board that involved the indefinite suspension of his dental license, according to dental board records.
To get the license back, Dr. Jones was required to provide the state licensing board with a written report from a treating practitioner indicating that he “is no longer drug or alcohol dependent” and has successfully completed treatment, according to documents from the state dental board.
He also needed to complete coursework in infection control and ethics.
If he were able to get his license reinstated, Dr. Jones was to be ordered to not prescribe, order, dispense or administer any controlled-substance drugs and would be ordered to have no such drugs in his office.
