Columbiana students and teachers honored

The Columbiana County Educational Service Center conducted its annual Senior Honors Recognition Brunch this month at the Salem Golf Club.

More than 100 parents, students, superintendents, principals, guidance counselors and educators attended.

Sixteen seniors from Columbiana County high schools who scored a 30 or higher on the ACT received recognition and an award as “Heads Above the Rest.” Columbiana County Educational Service Center has been honoring the highest-performing students for the past 13 years. More than 190 students have been recognized.

Students are from Beaver Local, Columbiana, Crestview Local, East Liverpool, East Palestine, Salem, Southern Local, United Local and Wellsville.

As they received their awards, the seniors shared their future aspirations as well as their college and career plans.

Joseph Shiver, principal of Salem High School, shared words of inspiration for seniors.

Local teachers also were honored as “Star Educators.” Each year, past recipients of the “Heads Above the Rest” award nominate a teacher who made a profound and positive effect upon the student.

This year, 17 educators received the distinction. The teachers are from Beaver, Columbiana, Crestview, Lisbon, Salem, Southern, St. Aloysius and United.
