More than 30 area youngsters are gearing up to compete in the 14th annual Greater Youngstown Area Soap Box Derby, set for 10 a.m. Saturday on West Main Street (state Route 46).
The event will feature stock, super-stock and masters divisions. The top finisher from each division will represent the Youngstown area at the 76th annual All American Soap Box Derby on July 27 in Akron.
For 26 years, the local derby has sent representatives to the All American competition.
Inspections took place at Trumbull County Agriculture Family and Education Center, 520 W. Main St.
West Main will close at 5 p.m. today for track setup and reopen at 8 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. Spectators are asked to park at the former Delphi plant.
McCleary-Jacoby Road will be open to local traffic only. Also, the far west portion of West Main to the family and education center’s parking lot will be open to racers’ families only.
