Tequila Haskins, 28, accused of killing her boyfriend, is scheduled to appear in Boardman court at 3 p.m. today.
Haskins is charged in the death of Brian Tubbs after she caught him in bed with their neighbor, according to a police report. Police discovered Tubbs, 28, was stabbed with a large kitchen knife in the arm, chest and throat.
Haskins had come home early from her job, Detective Greg Stepuk said.
Paramedics tried reviving Tubbs at the scene before he was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center where he died. Stepuk said Tubbs was bleeding from his chest cavity.
Haskins “was quite shocked when she found her boyfriend and neighbor naked in bed,” Stepuk said.
The neighbor, Stepuk said, tried to quietly remove herself but was partially struck and thrown down the stairs by Haskins. That’s when police believe the neighbor fled the home at 812 Moyer Ave. and went back to her place next door, Stepuk said. That’s where police found her.
Stepuk said he told Haskins of Tubbs’ death immediately after he found out.
“She was upset,” Stepuk said. “She was very distressed,” he added of Haskins realizing the father of their two children was dead, and she was going to Mahoning County jail.
Both children were placed with Tubbs’ sister-in-law, Stepuk said.
Haskins now faces a murder charge, but Stepuk said it may be reduced to voluntary manslaughter because Tubbs initiated the conflict.
“It seems to be a pretty straight case,” Stepuk said.
